Simone Shurney

For Simone Shurney, education has always been about more than academics, it is about nurturing the whole person. A Detroit native with a lifelong passion for learning, community, and social impact, Simone brings both heart and purpose to her role as Fidelity Manager. Her journey has come full circle, from studying educational policy to returning to the classroom as a teacher, where she found meaningful ways to support young people in her hometown. 

After studying at the University of Michigan and the University of Pennsylvania and teaching at Detroit Waldorf School, Simone developed a deep appreciation for educational environments that prioritize the human needs of children. Her commitment to youth development and community engagement eventually led her to Teen HYPE, where the organization’s vision and philosophy aligned closely with her own values. What began as an unexpected opportunity quickly revealed itself as a natural next step in her professional journey. 

At Teen HYPE, Simone finds joy in working directly with young people and building authentic relationships within the community she knows so well. She values the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues, embrace new challenges, and contribute to a culture fueled by energy, innovation, and care. 

Unlike those who identify with a single superhero, Simone draws inspiration from the Justice League as a whole. For her, their greatest strength is not individual power but collective action. Each member brings unique talents, perspectives, and experiences, yet they accomplish their greatest victories by working together toward a common purpose. That belief mirrors Simone’s approach to education and community impact. She understands that meaningful change happens when people come together, listen to one another, and combine their strengths in service of something greater than themselves. 

Whether she is supporting programs, collaborating with community partners, creating visual art, sewing, knitting, cooking, or enjoying her favorite R&B music, Simone brings intentionality and creativity to everything she does. Looking ahead, she hopes to continue growing professionally while building a healthy balance between her work, her passions, and her growing family. 

Simone’s mission is rooted in the belief that justice, growth, and community are ongoing practices. By fostering collaboration, centering the humanity of young people, and creating spaces where every voice matters, she works each day to help build a future where all youth have the opportunity to thrive.
