Chlo Janisch
Adolescent Program Specialist and Teaching Artist
Rogue
Creativity has always been at the heart of Chlo Janisch’s journey. A proud Midwesterner born in Wisconsin, raised in Minnesota, educated in Illinois, and now a devoted Detroit transplant, Chlo brings a deep love for community, connection, and artistic expression to everything she does. Drawn to Detroit’s vibrant culture and unmistakable sense of pride, she quickly found a city and a mission that felt like home.
As a Youth Teaching Artist and Adolescent Program Specialist, Chlo combines her background in theatre, education, and the arts to create meaningful experiences for young people. After attending a performing arts high school and earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting, she discovered that the skills developed through artistic practice, communication, empathy, collaboration, and self-expression, were powerful tools for education and youth development. Coming from a family of educators, she found the perfect intersection of her passions in teaching and the arts.
At Teen HYPE, Chlo’s creativity takes many forms. Whether guiding students through visual arts projects, helping young people discover their voices through poetry, or collaborating on theatrical productions, she creates spaces where youth can explore who they are and what they have to say. Her versatility as an artist and educator allows her to meet students where they are while encouraging them to grow in confidence, creativity, and self-awareness.
Like her superhero inspirations, Chlo believes in the power of connection and optimism. She admires Rogue from the X-Men for her ability to build meaningful relationships and her genuine care for others, qualities that reflect Chlo’s own people-centered approach. She also identifies with Domino’s unwavering belief that even difficult situations can lead to unexpected opportunities. Chlo strives to bring that same positive energy into her work, encouraging young people to recognize possibility even in challenging moments.
Inspired by William Shakespeare’s words, “Sweet are the uses of adversity, which, like the toad, ugly and venomous, wears yet a precious jewel in his head.” Chlo embraces the lessons that come from hardship. She believes that growth often emerges from life’s most difficult experiences and that every challenge carries the potential to reveal strength, wisdom, and resilience.
Chlo’s mission is simple: use the arts as a bridge for connection, inspire young people to express themselves authentically, and help them discover the creativity, courage, and confidence that already exist within them.
