Our Work
Our Approach
Teen HYPE’s school programs are designed with both students and educators in mind. Our curriculum is grounded in adolescent development research and delivered through methods that engage today’s youth. We offer flexible implementation options to fit various school schedules and needs, making our programs accessible to diverse educational environments.
Our trained facilitators connect authentically with young people, creating safe spaces for growth and learning. We incorporate engaging, interactive methods including arts integration and peer education to ensure the material resonates with students and creates lasting impact.
The effectiveness of our approach is demonstrated through measurable outcomes that schools can track and evaluate. Our programs can be implemented during advisory periods, health classes, or as standalone initiatives, with comprehensive materials and professional development for school staff provided. Throughout implementation, Teen HYPE’s education team offers ongoing support to ensure program success.
Teen HYPE is not a typical school program, we are a youth launching pad.
Through the following programs, youth acquire leadership skills, engage in healthy risk-taking, practice readiness abilities, and access sexual health services.
Young people love coming to Teen HYPE because we have created a safe, welcoming, and youth-friendly environment.
In-School Programs
Adolescence can be a complicated season for teens/tweens. There are many transitions and this coupled with puberty, our high school curriculum builds skills and knowledge for healthy and successful relationships with partners, family, friends, and co-workers. It is designed to help young people create meaningful relationships and wise choices. Wise choices will assist them in achieving their education, employment, relationship, and family goals, while poor relationship and sexual choices may create barriers to these goals
Teen HYPE is highly recognized for facilitating high quality programs in middle school and high schools. Through school partnerships we implement evidence-based programs that promote SEL.
School Programs: Building Skills for Success
Teen HYPE partners with Detroit area schools to deliver engaging, impactful programming that supports student development beyond academics. Our in-school initiatives create a seamless continuum of care from middle through high school, helping young people develop essential life skills during their most formative years.
Foundations (Middle School Program)
Our middle school program, Foundations, is specially designed to meet the unique needs of students in grades 6-8. During these transformative years, students build the fundamental skills that will support their success in high school and beyond. In Foundations, students embark on a journey of self-discovery, learning to understand and manage their emotions effectively while developing healthy coping strategies for stress and challenges. The program nurtures self-confidence and helps students form a positive identity during this crucial developmental stage.Elevations (High School Program)
Building on skills developed in middle school, our high school program Elevations prepares students in grades 9-12 for the increasing complexity of adult relationships and responsibilities. Rather than simply focusing on what to avoid, Elevations uses a strengths-based approach that offers young people new conceptual frameworks to help them make informed decisions instead of sliding into unplanned choices that can derail their lives. The LEAD Program
The LEAD Program exists to transform Detroit-area youth into catalysts for change by cultivating their inherent brilliance through a comprehensive leadership journey. We work alongside young people to discover their authentic voices, develop critical skills, and harness their collective power to address barriers and create positive transformation in their lives and communities.
The LEAD Difference: Our Five Pillars, Academic & Career Readiness
Your teen’s LEAD experience is built on five interconnected pillars that create a foundation for lasting success:
- Personal Development: Cultivating self-awareness, confidence, and a positive identity.
- Community Engagement: Connecting youth with service opportunities and civic participation
- Academic Readiness: Building skills for educational achievement and lifelong learning.
- Leadership Cultivation: Developing the abilities to inspire, organize, and create change.
- Holistic Health Leadership: Nurturing physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Through these pillars, we build spaces where youth can boldly express themselves, bridge opportunity gaps, and drive meaningful change. We believe that when young people lead, teach, and advocate for one another, they unlock their unlimited potential and become the architects of a more just and vibrant future.
