Teen HYPE is not a typical after-school program, we are a youth launching pad.
Through the following programs, youth acquire leadership skills, engage in healthy risk-taking, practice readiness abilities, and access sexual health services.
Young people love coming to Teen HYPE because we have created a safe, welcoming, and youth-friendly environment.
Youth Leadership Program
An out of school time program designed for High school students. Each your young people are offered the opportunity to apply to join a cohort of teens and tap into their innate talents and gifts while participating in fun, impactful activities, and creating meaningful experiences they will cherish for a lifetime.
Focus: Developing leadership and social-emotional abilities to help youth be ready for school, work, and life.

Annual Theatrical Production
For over a decade Teen HYPE has utilized the arts and leadership to raise awareness about social justice issues facing young people. Every year, thousands of youths see reflections of themselves and their stories on the stages and throughout the community. Our productions are more than opportunities to showcase young talent, youth also co-write and design the production alongside professional actors and directors, and Teen HYPE staff.
Focus: Using the Arts to promote Readiness, Self-Expression, Youth Voice and Social Justice.

Social Change for Good Project
This project focuses on promoting access to Reproductive Health services and education in our community. Ends September 2022.

Think SMART Project
The THINK SMART Project ( aka Empowering Youth Today) uses a curriculum for middle school students called REAL Essentials: Starting Point! Starting Point is an evidence and relationship-based intervention with a Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) component. It is geared towards assisting youth develop and maintain healthy relationships as they transition from childhood to teenagers. This project increases knowledge and awareness around the importance of communication, and the significant role decision making plays in forming relationships that helps youth live a healthier lifestyle. Implementation happens through several class sessions on a scope and sequence basis.
Focus: Sexual Risk Avoidance Education programming and support.

The Promise Project
Uses a multisystem and community-based approach to promote optimal health for young people in our community. A core element of this project includes the Love Notes & Hats & Ladders curriculums. Love Notes builds skills and knowledge for healthy and successful relations for romance, friends, family, school, and work. Implementation includes 12-13 sessions for students in grades (9-12). It’s an innovative and strengths-based approach within a positive youth-development framework that teaches youth about forming and maintaining healthy relationships. The uniqueness of this approach also empowers them to make healthy sexual choices that will boost sexual delay and sexual risk avoidance. All youth, regardless of sexual orientation, have attractions, emotions and desires for healthy relationships. All youth need skills and knowledge to navigate their relationships and make wise choices.
Focus: Promotes optimal health through career readiness and healthy relationship development.

Real Talk CDC HIV testing counseling and referrals
Teen HYPE provides FREE, confidential HIV/STI testing and counseling services for 13 to 29 year-olds through a Center for Disease Control (CDC) grant. We offer consultations for at-risk individuals including HIV/STI testing, physician visits, and a prescription for treatment to prevent HIV infection.

Keepin’ It Real
This federally funded, evidence-based substance abuse prevention program focuses on risk avoidance. Keepin’ It Real equips 7th to 9th graders with the skills to help them become confident decision-makers and effective communicators. Over the program’s eight sessions, the students reflect on their lives and personal values to shape a meaningful and relevant learning experience.
