Health Equity Advocate

The Health Equity Advocate is a critical member of the Teen HYPE (TH) team as we work to ensure a continuum of care in our community. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Health Equity Advocate (HEA) roles: Through a Mezzo lens strengthen our village by weaving together community assets, schools, local orgs, and businesses to continuum of care and support for young people. Provide additional support to youth with chronic absenteeism to ensure program completion. 2) to identify existing resources and creates a bridge between youth needs adolescent friendly service providers. Provides individualized and 1:1 support to adolescents; Using an equity lens, links youth to essential services and supports throughout the village. The HEA will make facilitated referrals for the youth and families.
A multi-sector movement where adults keep their promise to support youth in their endeavor to be ready for college work and life (optimal health), and youth mobilize all the promise that lies in their talents, hearts and minds. Major project components will include The Promise Collaborative; Community PROMISE Evidence-Based Intervention, and Community PROMISE events, where you will engage parents to participate in gathering their child’s role model stories for our “shoots.” As a result, these authentic stories will help us build the “Promise brand.” Stories will be distributed by teens via social media and interwoven into Detroit area communications, billboards, a website, and small-print media distributed in high schools and gathering places!
  • Collect and report on performance measures related to referrals and linkages.
  • Identify a robust directory of youth friendly services and resources.
  • Serve as support for Adolescent Specialist
  • Ensures a continuum of care by leading monthly wraparound meetings.
  • Acts as a resource hub to providers, parents and community; communicates and disseminates information and resources on relevant youth development issues as needed.
  • Advocate on behalf of youth with other leverage partners, when necessary
  • Attend resource-sharing meetings, health fairs and other community events, as assigned
  • 3-5years of experience in family support or community development programs
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills; ideally training & mentoring capacity
  • Strong background in parent/family engagement strategies and community health issues
  • Track record of developing & managing family needs assessments to support programmatic growth
  • Available to work some nights and weekends and possesses clean & valid driver’s license

A minimum education level of a bachelor’s degree in education or lived experience in youth and family services, family support or K-12 education setting. Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability develop positive working relationships with a diverse population of students, families, staff, and the public. Proficiency with the use of computer and online applications to collect data, organize, document activities, and produce communications, presentations, and reports is preferred.

Community Level Youth Initiatives Manager

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join Teen HYPE as a Community Level (Mezzo) Level Youth Initiatives Manager. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with youth, excellent leadership skills, and a strong understanding of mezzo level program management. The Manager will be responsible for overseeing and implementing multiple programs and initiatives targeted towards youth, aimed at promoting holistic development, well-being, and ensuring a continuum of care throughout the Detroit community.
  1. Oversee grant funded mezzo level youth programs that align with the organization’s mission and objectives.
  2. Coordinate and manage all aspects of the youth programs, including planning, reporting, supervision, and evaluation.
  3. Recruit, train, and supervise a team of program staff, to deliver high-quality services to youth.
  4. Collaborate with community partners, schools, and other organizations to establish partnerships and resources for program implementation.
  5. Work alongside third-party evaluator to conduct annual needs assessments and collect youth program survey data to evaluate project outcomes and satisfaction.
  6. Oversee the delivery of evidence-based curricula for Detroit area middle school and high school youth.
  7. Provide ongoing guidance and support to program staff, to ensure program effectiveness and adherence to best practices.
  8. Monitor program outcomes and track participant progress to measure the impact and success of the programs.
  9. Develop and maintain program budgets, manage expenditures, and seek funding opportunities to sustain and expand the programs.
  10. Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements or modifications to enhance program outcomes and participant satisfaction.
  11. Maintain accurate records, files, and documentation related to program activities, participants, and outcomes.
  12. Stay updated on current trends, research, and best practices in youth development to inform program design and implementation.
  13. Promote program visibility and engage with the community through networking, public speaking, and marketing efforts.
  14. Collaborate with the organization’s senior management team to align youth programs with the overall strategic goals and mission of the organization.
  1. Bachelor’s degree in social work, youth development, psychology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  2. Lived experience in managing mezzo level youth programs, preferably in a nonprofit or community-based organization.
  3. Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and engage program staff and volunteers.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including youth, parents, community partners, and funders.
  5. Knowledge of youth development principles, best practices, and current trends in mezzo level program management.
  6. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems.
  8. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to program sites and community meetings.

Teen HYPE Youth & Family Social Worker

Youth and Family Support Specialist is an exciting role responsible for leading collaborative efforts to engage parents by supporting one of Teen HYPE’s core areas of focus; working in partnerships with parents and caretakers. Primary focus is to facilitate active parent engagement across programs, develop and oversee a resource and referral hub for youth and families, provide case management collaborative input. You will serve as a “Readiness Coach”; answer questions, guide parents and youth to locate resources to help their Readiness gaps. Also develop effective social media support systems to send resources, reminders, and support to parents.

Program Planning & Support

  • Identify, plan, direct, and evaluate parent engagement activities, and events in partnership with educators, school staff, & stakeholders
  • Work 1:1 with OST youth to create individualized success plans and case management as needed,
  • Create dynamic workshops that educate parents, pilot YouTube parent education series.
  • Maintain a resource and referral process for in school and out of school time youth

Coaching, Mentoring, Trainings

  • Coach, mentor, train, and provide critical assistance to parents & caretakers
  • Facilitates parent education workshops & designs new, innovative content aligns with our region’s needs
  • Act as point person to refer parent’s to readily available supportive community resources

Community Relations

  • Develops strong community relationships to build new capacity for parents to engage in their child’s lives
  • Provides training to help empower parents to increase their child’s participation in school
